How to Wear a Bralette

Posted on

Let's talk bralettes: You see them everywhere, and it's time we answer some of your questions.

  1. When should you wear a bralette?
  2. How do you wear them?
  3. Do bralettes offer support?
  4. How do you style a bralette?

BUT before we get into the nitty gritty, shouldn't we answer the biggest question?

What Is a Bralette?

We don't know about you, but the first thing we do after a long day at work is ditch the bra. It'd be nice if we lived in a world where we could go braless on the reg, but unfortunately (depending on your job) the majority of society finds that socially unacceptable... Enter the bralette.

Bralettes were made for two reasons:

  1. Comfort
  2. (More recently) They're just really freaking cute

The truth is, bralettes have been around forever. They are the delicate little bras that you've seen with no underwire, and are made with little or no padding. They've become more "mainstream" over the past couple of years as their styles have evolved. Seriously though, the second you put one on you'll be hooked. Don't just take our word for it, according to Buzzfeed, you'll never want to go back to your normal bra again.

When Should You Wear a Bralette, and How Should You Wear Them?

You can wear a bralette anytime for comfort, or if you're trying to step up a basic outfit the right brlaette can tie everything together. Bralettes tend to have strappy backs, or fun lace details so they are the perfect option to wear beneath tops that have low necklines, or shirts with open backs. In some situations, bralettes can be a better alternative to the basic cami.

Will a Bralette Offer Support?

Okay, here's the bottom line: while bralettes do offer support, they will never be as supportive as the typical padded bra with underwire. However, if you're concerned with having enough support, here are some things to look for:

    • Try to find bralettes with thicker materials
    • Look for bralettes that have adjustable straps
    • Find a bralette that is a racer back, or halter style.
For example, our First Love Bralette is more supportive as it's material is thick, it's lined with cotton, and it's a racer back style.
